Update on RADTIP project (Stephanie Monson)

Economic Development office for the City

River Arts District Transportation Improvement Project–part of Wilma Dykeman Riverway Project

Think of it simply–redesigning of the roadway (like Clingman is now) all the way from Hill Street to the RAD

Public feedback over the last 1.5 has guided the process of the design of this new roadway.  City has chosen to support the route that the River Development commission preferred.  It’s multi-modal.  Main change in the roadway is to eliminate the curve in front of Curve Studios.  It will go toward the river.  12 Bones will be on your left (rather than your right as it is now)

The curve is a real challenge.  Looking to put a sidewalk across the railroad tracks.  Traffic is only going to increase.

Timeline–in analysis stage now, then go to City Council (in Sept), City Council needs to approve it and then they can apply for funding to construct within 6 years (has to be within 6 years)

Have $50,000 to put toward feasibility analysis right now

Connect Buncombe–Buncombe County Parks, Greenways and Recreation (Lucy Crown)

This is the Buncombe County greenway initiative.  Their goal to connect existing greenways in cities and towns within Buncombe County with each other.

Partners: municipalities within the county (Black Mountain, Asheville, Montreat, Woodfin, Weaverville, MPO, Blue Ridge Parkway)

Greenway: a pathway or park that connects places and people to one another

Connect Buncombe–public outreach campaign

Mission: to connect the entire county with safe pathways for transportation and recreation

Upcoming Family-friendly Priority Area Unveilings:

Buncombe County Parks, Greenways and Recreation Services are unveiling the preliminary county-wide greenway plan maps with a series of drop-in public meetings in May. The maps show the proposed priority areas of the county-wide Greenways and Trails Master Plan Update.

At these meetings across Buncombe County, they will emphasize the most locally relevant focus areas of the plan, as well as take more public feedback.  Part of the Buncombe County Greenways and Trails Master Plan Update is to provide greenway access points to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and parkway representatives will be on hand to discuss trail heads to the parkway within the Asheville Corridor.

The Connect Buncombe “Greenways, Please” photo booth will be on-site to help you show your support for a county-wide greenway system by taking a photo (see attached). Families and participants of all ages are welcome.   Light refreshments will be served.

The meetings will be held from 5:30-7:30 at the following dates and  locations:

May 14: Weaverville Town Hall  30 South Main Street Weaverville, NC  28787
